Atlanta is the city where we live, hope, dream and build to become the leading digital hub in the South. Our city's brand is booming and the #ChooseATL launch was the place to be last night to learn why this is true. Even for those of us who consider ourselves to be thriving natives of Atlanta, we were compelled to take a second look at the digital marketers and advertising agencies that currently exist in our city.
Atlanta City Councilman Kwanza Hall kicked off the presentation and Nebo Agency CEO Brian Easter, Engauge SVP Joe Koufman, Coca-Cola Director Lisa Bobb and Nebo Agency President Adam Harrell took us on a journey about the campaign. The presentation for #ChooseATL, which is still in the organic stage, brought to light some interesting points that most of us working right here in Atlanta have never even considered. In addition to being the cornerstone of the Civil Rights Movement and the New Capital of the South we are still making history every day.
Atlanta is home to over 263,000 tech jobs.
Atlanta is the leader in digital start ups in the United States.
We are home to some of the most valued brands in the world: Coca-Cola Company, The Home Depot, Delta Airlines and UPS.
Atlanta is the 15th largest economy in the world.
We are a "green" city which means we have 36% tree coverage, more than any other major city.
By the year 2018 there will be over 500,000 tech jobs in Atlanta.
With top colleges such as Morehouse and Georgia Tech, Atlanta boasts the largest demographic of college graduates and experienced professionals and that's why executives like Brian want to keep them here. "We have the perfect convergence of opportunity and quality of life" he added. This also explains why he is so passionate and wants to dispel the illusion graduates have about working in this industry and the need to move to New York, San Francisco or Chicago to do so. "Atlanta has been so good about so many things but we haven't been so great at telling our story." He explained that he became motivated to collaborate on this initiative after attending an event in San Francisco in 2012. After listening to their stories and plans he determined they really didn't have a better plan than us. He and other creative minds got together to do some research and then they connected with leaders in the digital media and technology industries in other cities who host global signature brands.
Joe Koufman also expressed his desire to keep and attract talent here in Atlanta. He implored the audience to participate in the #ChooseATL initiative and "be nice, pay it forward, dream big, work hard and play hard." Adam Harrell brought it home for us when he said "we want to attract Atlanta's creative class and remind the people that live here why we all love it!"
The event was held at Atlanta Tech Village with over 250 attendees from the biggest brands in the world such as Coca-Cola Company, The Home Depot, Turner Broadcasting, and Clear Channel Communications. The atmosphere was electric and exciting with anticipation bouncing off the walls. Sponsors included The IceBox, Figs & Honey Catering, Cellaris, Monday Night Brewing, Hop City, Metro Atlanta Chamber and Invest Atlanta.
Brian ended the evening by comparing this movement to the Renaissance of Florence Italy. He stated "other cities have great artists and great thinkers who cultivate a creative class. All movements begin really small but with key influencers and they move fast. Atlanta needs to move now to be the epicenter of this period."
We can add to the rich history and legacy of Atlanta and ensure that when we look back we will be proud because our city will also be a part of the digital age and the leading digital hub in the South.
It's a SMART campaign.
Specific, Measurable, Actionable, Reliable and Trustworthy!
Let's get behind it and push - #ChooseATL - Choose Atlanta!
