46th Annual NAACP Image Awards

Each year, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People presents artists who have contributed to the arts and entertainment world with prestigious awards. Atlanta was well represented at the star studded 46th Annual NAACP Awards.

Some of Hollywood's biggest names came out to celebrate the accomplishments of African Americans who are actors, actresses, producers, political affairs, writers and other Entertainment/Arts contributors. Actor Chadwick Boseman was an award presenter and Actress/Singer Demetria McKinney along with Executive Producer Roger Bobb graced the Red Carpet.

Special Honorees were United States Attorney General Eric Holder and award-winning movie producer Spike Lee. Kerry Washington, Scott Foley and Joe Morton all represented well for the television smash hit "Scandal." Other big awards for the night went to the cast of ABC's "black-ish" for Outstanding Comedy Series and Selma for Outstanding Motion Picture. Actress Taraji P. Henson was named Entertainer of the Year and Russell Simmons presented Music Legend Clive Davis with the Vanguard Award for his continued contributions to the music industry.

The celebration began Thursday night with awards for the non-televised categories during a gala dinner hosted by Affion Crockett and Chris Spencer. The winners were voted upon by the NAACP members and included those who have contributed work in literature, recording arts and our technology advancements.

The NAACP Hollywood Bureau Symposium was also held to encourage new creative and emerging ideas for 2015 and beyond. This was especially focused on social media and the use of non-traditional platforms for entertainment such as YouTube, Vine, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

The star-studded awards ceremony was held at the beautiful Pasadena Civic Center. Actors, actresses, recording artists entrepreneurs, producers and community leaders all came out to grace the Red Carpet.

Actor Scott Foley shared why it was important for him to show up to celebrate the achievements of his fellow actors leaders. He explained that he loves his work but he also loves to enjoy it with them too. Image Awards show producer Reginald Hudlin stopped to talk about his support for the Image Awards and what this unique ceremony means to African Americans. Rapper Common, who is also nominated for an Academy Award for "Selma" shared his message of the importance of education and the advancement and empowerment of all people.

Other Red Carpet favorites were Larenz Tate, Gabriel Union, Angela Bassett and Lawrence Fishburne. A special moment includes the crowd, who erupted with celebration when David Oyelowo appeared. His performance in "Selma" is appreciated by all who saw the movie.

Other highlights include Oprah Winfrey, Tika Sumpter, Taye Diggs, Uzo Aduba, Iyanla Vanzant, Tracey Edmonds and Shemar Moore. Cornell William Brooks, a lawyer and activist, is the CEO President of the NAACP. He joined the celebrities on the Red Carpet to express his appreciation and gratitude for all the of support from the community and the attendees.

The hosts for the 2015 awards were Actress Tracee Ellis Ross and Actor Anthony Anderson.

TVOne aired the 46th Annual NAACP Awards Friday, February 6th, 2015 at 8pm/EST with a special Red Carpet show hosted by Shawn Robinson and Kevin Frazier.
