39th Annual Atlanta Jazz Festival
One of the largest free, jazz music festivals is happening Memorial Day weekend, in Atlanta, Georgia. To initiate the celebration, during the entire month of May, jazz performers will showcase their talents around Atlanta leading up to this exciting weekend festival.
Each year, thousands come to historic Piedmont Park in Midtown Atlanta to celebrate jazz performers and musical greats. The festival also includes a neighborhood jazz series, youth band jazz competition, shopping, food vendors and fun activities for kids and families. Atlanta is more diverse and younger than it has ever been and the 2016 festival has been designed to accommodate these new audiences.
The 39th Annual artist line up includes: Next Collective, JOI, Alex Lattimore, Chargaux, the soulful grooves of Gregory Porter and Hip Hop inspired flavor by Hypnotic Brass Ensemble. Across three stages will be Latin, blues and traditional jazz music. The international stage will host the sultry, Elaine Elias and the glorious tunes of Camilla Meza.
Atlanta Jazz Festival was created to be a liberated art form at no cost to the community. This celebration of Jazz in Atlanta has been the backdrop for legends such as Miles Davis, Nina Simone and Dizzie Gillespie.
Presented by the Atlanta Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs, their mission is to educate and entertain a wide range of jazz music fans. They also hope to motivate and nurture the next generation of future musicians.
Sponsors this year are PNC Bank, Lowes Atlanta Hotel, Atlanta Convention and Visitors Bureau, Fontis Water and Standard Press.
